New Zealand 3G Network Shutdown Affecting RTU5024 Gate Openers
As of 23 March 2026, One NZ has officially completed its 3G network shutdown. This means any older 3G-only RTU5024 units have now lost all functionality.
Your Next Steps:
- Upgrade to the 4G Model: To restore service, you will need to replace your existing unit with the 4G version of the RTU5024. The wiring is identical, so you can simply swap the wires from your old green terminal block directly into the new unit.
- Get a 4G-Ready SIM: Ensure your new unit has a 4G-compatible SIM card from One NZ. Before inserting it, please ensure all call-forwarding and auto-answering features are deactivated to prevent interference with the gate's operation.
Just dial from Authorized User number then the Barrier and doors are opened, or the machine are turn on or off by the 4GLTE Gate Opener. There are no call costs, the 4GLTE Gate Opener rejects the call from authorized number then carries out the turn ON/OFF action.
GSM Remote Control Device
Note: Requires 09-24v dc. Suitable for most gate opener devices
Can be installed in parallel with keypads and exit buttons fitted to electric gate openers (or garage door, pump etc) or wired directly to the control board of your gate to enable it to be activated by means of a phone call.
When the Dial to Open receives a call, it will reject the call (so there will be no charge – at least with today’s charging procedures) and click the relay momentarily...opening the gate. Your costs will be only for the minimum top up of the sim card (to keep it active) and TEXT fees while managing the programme.
NOTE: Requires a 4G standard One NZ/Vodafone pre-paid sim card (not Spark or 2Degrees)
Remember to top up your sim card or risk cancellation of the phone number.
